The Spoonies Creed

With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility

I am not responsible for having a chronic illness or for any of the symptoms that it causes.

I am 100% responsible for managing that illness in a way that optimizes my ability to love God and my neighbor by being physically strong and emotionally present to the greatest extent possible.

I am not responsible for what I feel.

I am 100% responsible for what I do with those feelings, including whether I choose to fully embrace and indulge in emotions that are untrue, unhelpful, inappropriate, or incomplete or whether I choose to counter those emotions with truth, prayer, and allegiance to higher priorities.

I am not responsible for my lack of strength, energy, health, mental focus, or emotional motivation.

I am 100% responsible for investing every drop of what I do have and spending it on the right priorities instead of wasting it in self-pity or the preservation of my comfort zone.

I am not responsible for circumstances outside my control.

I am 100% responsible for fixing my gaze on the Master of those circumstances, fixing my mind on His truth, and praying earnestly and frequently for the strength that I need for this – and only this – moment.

I am not responsible for summoning the strength, wisdom, or resources I need to survive and thrive.

I am 100% reliant on the power of Christ and His work in me.
